This is an exciting opportunity to change the legal landscape for unaccompanied children in the North West who are in need of immigration legal advice and representation in relation to their claim for asylum in the UK. We have received 2 years funding from the North West Local Authorities through the North West Association of Directors of Children’s Services (NWADCS) to reduce the length of time that children are having to wait to get a legal representative due to the lack of capacity in the legal aid system.
We are looking to recruit a number of OISC level 2 or level 3 caseworkers, or solicitors, who have an interest or experience in this work. Full training and supervision will be provided with a view to successful candidates becoming Law Society accredited at IAAS level 2 within the first year of employment (if not already accredited). IAAS accreditation will enable newly qualifying caseworkers to take on legal aid cases by the end of the project and therefore increase capacity in the sector.
Caseworkers will work as part of a team of experienced immigration solicitors and caseworkers.
We expect that as caseworkers develop there will be opportunities to take on other types of immigration and asylum legal work in the future.
