‘Lincolnshire Holds a Lot of Potential’: UK Top 75 Firm Opens Base, Seeks Mergers

Not known as a major legal centre, the English city of Lincoln has become the unlikely location of Shakespeare Martineau’s latest office opening.
The top-75 U.K. firm has launched its ninth U.K. operation in the city with a double partner hire from regional law firm Wilkin Chapman, according to an announcement by the firm.
Litigation and dispute resolution partner Jonathan Stork will join the firm at the start of February while corporate and commercial partner Michael Squirrel started earlier in January.
In a statement, Duncan James, the firm’s East Midlands regional head, said: “We work with several clients in Lincoln already, including those in the education, tech, energy and agriculture sectors – so it’s a no brainer to have an on-the-ground presence.
“Lincolnshire holds a lot of potential, and our clients will benefit from a local presence as well as the backing of our wider teams in energy, education, agriculture, fast-growing businesses and wealth management, to name just a few.”
The new launch adds to Shakespeare Martineau’s offices in places including Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, and Stratford Upon Avon and follows its announcement in November that it plans to double in size by 2023.
According to the statement, Shakespeare Martineau is proactively seeking mergers, acquisitions, team recruitment and lateral hires both within Lincoln and nationally.
