Norton Rose Matches Last Year’s Bumper Global Promotions Tally

Norton Rose Fulbright has matched its previous partner promotions tally, as Reed Smith also announces a bumper global round for 2021.

The latest round sees Norton Rose promote 47 lawyers to its partnership across 11 locations worldwide. Litigation and disputes has seen the highest number of promotions this year, with 14 lawyers promoted to the partnership.

The corporate, M&A and securities practice and the banking and finance practice saw 10 and nine lawyers become partners respectively. The tally equals last year’s sweeping promotions round.

Gerry Pecht, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chief executive, said in a statement: “I would like to congratulate this impressive group of lawyers on this accomplishment. Practicing in 22 offices across 11 countries on six continents, these lawyers reflect the truly global nature of Norton Rose Fulbright and its wide range of client offerings.”

Meanwhile, Reed Smith announced the promotion of 31 associates and counsel to partner across all its regions, bettering its tally last year by two.

The new partners are located in 11 offices in the U.S., U.K. and Asia, 42% of whom are women.

Casey Ryan, Reed Smith’s global head of legal personnel, said in a statement: “These promotions result from their outstanding legal skills, dedicated client service, high levels of productivity and strong firm citizenship. They have each made valuable contributions to the success of our business, and we are confident they will continue to do so.”

The two firms are the latest to announce their global partner promotions. On Wednesday, Morrison & Foerster halved the number of new partners on last year’s round, promoting only nine lawyers worldwide, while earlier in the week, fellow U.S. firm Milbank also announced a halved promotions round, with just five lawyers making the cut.
