UK, Belgian Law Firm Duo Seal Strategic Alliance

Belgian law firm GSJ and U.K. Top 50 law firm TLT have entered into a strategic alliance, as firms continue to ramp up their Belgian capabilities in light of the U.K.’s departure from the European Union.

Following its previous alliance with the Dutch firm Holla in June of 2020, this is the second strategic alliance move for TLT in less than a year.

GSJ comprises 58 lawyers including 18 partners, and operates in Antwerp.

Both TLT and GSJ have experience in real estate, financial services, retail and the public sector, according to a press release by the firms on Wednesday.

In a statement, Chris Owen, head of international at TLT, said that Belgium’s strategic importance to clients in the EU and beyond was growing as the seat of the EU institutions and as an important business jurisdiction.

With Brexit expected to shift more transactions from London to Brussels, several international law firms – including Crowell & Moring last week – have bolstered their Brussels bases in recent months.
